The National Consumer Union (Unc) has called for a ban on the distribution of steel and aluminium water bottles within schools. This is the position of UNC, which in June had already launched a mobilization and written to the institutions to ask for stricter rules on the marketing of these products.

On that occasion, a lack of consumer awareness about the use of water bottles was reported, and a survey by La Sapienza University of Rome was mentioned, which indicated an alleged release of metal elements from some of these products, study that never appeared publicly. The request is linked to the lack of adequate certification and a reference regulation on the materials used for water bottles. There would therefore be little guarantee of the real safety of these products.
